Grandma Teachings for Overcoming Grief and Loss. 2560 1709 Dave

I am originally from Barbados, now living in Toronto Canada.

In Barbados, my grandma was my spiritual and business teacher. And well respected in the community.

My parents were living in England and came home and took my brother, my sister and myself to Canada. So that the family would be together.

Leaving Granny in Barbados was a heavy-hearted, sorrowful and unhappy moment.

Two years later my favorite person passed. I went back to Barbados to attend her funeral and here is how I dealt with my grief.

I acknowledge the painful feeling of my loss.

But what was illuminating, is remembering the wonderful memories we shared together.

She was my wisest teacher who taught me a lot.

Some of her tenets were:

  • Be a responsible person.
  • Respect others.
  • Learn from your mistakes
  • Commit to 100% effort
  • Love and compassion

These are the foundational values I live by today and keep me grounded.

When I attempt or ignore her teachings. I hear this voice saying. “Oh no you don’t.” LOL!
